Privacy Policy
The short version. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics scripts and has no tracking pixels. There are no forms, so there is nothing for you to submit. We do not know who you are and we have no way of finding out.
The one thing worth understanding is what happens when you click through to a provider, because that is where tracking does occur. It is explained below.
What is collected when you read a page
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, as every web host does. Those records typically include your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page you arrived from. They exist so the host can serve the site, detect abuse and diagnose faults.
We do not combine those logs with anything else, we do not build profiles from them, and we do not sell or share them. We have no mechanism to connect a log entry to a named person.
Cookies
This site sets none. Not for analytics, not for preferences, not for advertising. That is why you will not see a cookie banner here: there is nothing to consent to.
If that changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top will tell you when.
Affiliate links, and where tracking actually happens
This is the part that matters, and most privacy policies bury it.
Some links on this site take you to a provider that pays us a referral fee. We do not track your click. The provider does, normally by setting a cookie or recording a parameter on their own website once you arrive there, so they can tell that you came from us and pay accordingly.
Three consequences you should know:
- What happens after you leave is governed by that company's privacy policy, not ours. Read it if the relationship matters to you.
- Nothing you do on the provider's site comes back to us in identifiable form. We may be told that a referral converted. We are not told who you are.
- If you would rather not be tracked at all, type the provider's address into your browser directly instead of clicking our link. That costs us the fee and costs you nothing, and we would rather tell you that than pretend the option does not exist.
We do not currently collect email addresses anywhere on this site. If we add that, it will be an explicit opt-in, we will say what we are going to send, and every message will carry a working unsubscribe link. We will not sell or rent the list, and this page will be updated before the first message goes out.
Third parties on the page
The pages are self-contained. There are no embedded fonts loaded from an external service, no third-party scripts, no advertising network, no social media widgets and no video embeds. Nothing on the page reaches out to another company while you read it.
The only external links are the ones you can see in the text, which are either primary sources such as legislation and IRS pages, or the providers we compare.
Who is responsible, and which law applies
This site is published by CCC Impact B.V., a company established in the Netherlands. That company is the data controller.
Because the publisher is established in the European Union, European data protection law applies to how we handle personal data, and we apply it to every reader rather than only to European ones. In practice that means the standard on this page is the stricter of the two, wherever you happen to live.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to how we use it, and to receive a copy. In our case the honest answer to the first question is normally "nothing", because this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms.
To exercise any of those rights, write to hugo@cc-community.com. We answer within a month, which is the deadline European rules set.
Requests relating to server logs need to go to the hosting provider, since those records are theirs and are kept for them to operate the service. We will point you to the right place if you ask.
If you are in the European Union and you believe we have handled your data improperly, you may also complain to your national data protection authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Children
This site is about retirement accounts and is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18, and there is no mechanism here that would allow us to.
Changes
When this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and we describe what changed rather than editing quietly. That is the same commitment we make about our research pages.
