In one paragraph. This is a research site about US tax rules. It is published in good faith and sourced to primary documents, but it is not advice, it may contain errors, and the rules change. Decisions about your retirement money are yours, and they should be checked with someone who can see your full position.
What this site is
General information about how physical gold and silver may be held inside US retirement accounts, drawn from legislation, IRS guidance, court decisions and providers' published terms. Every substantive claim links to its source so you can verify it rather than take our word for it.
What this site is not
- Not investment advice. We are not a registered investment adviser and nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.
- Not tax or legal advice. We quote statutes and describe how they generally operate. How they apply to your situation is a question for a qualified professional.
- Not a dealer, custodian or depository. We do not sell metal, hold assets, administer accounts or execute transactions, and we cannot access your account.
- Not a substitute for the provider's own documents. Where we describe a provider's terms, their current written schedule governs, not our summary of it.
Accuracy, and its limits
We take accuracy seriously enough to publish our method, cite primary sources, date every page and run a corrections process. That is a real commitment and we stand behind it.
It is not a guarantee. Tax rules change, sometimes with immediate effect. Provider terms change without notice. Court decisions reinterpret settled positions. A page that was correct on its review date can be wrong later, and the review date at the top of each page is there so you can judge how much weight to put on it.
If you find an error, the corrections address is the fastest way to get it fixed. Corrections backed by a primary source get made and dated.
Links to other sites
We link to legislation, government pages, court decisions and to providers we compare. We do not control any of those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their terms or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything a company does.
Some provider links are paid. That is set out on the affiliate disclosure page and on each page where such a link appears.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the decisions you make about your own money, including which provider you choose, which products you buy and how you fund the account. We give you the rules and the questions to ask. We cannot and do not decide anything for you.
In particular, and we say this on the pages themselves: whether a concentrated holding in a single asset class suits your circumstances is a real question that depends on information we do not have.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published here, including losses connected to tax treatment, provider selection, fees, or the value of any asset. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the minimum permitted.
Our content
The writing, tables and tools on this site are ours. You are welcome to quote a passage with attribution and a link, and to cite us in research or in an AI-generated answer. Republishing pages wholesale, or reproducing our comparison tables as your own work, is not permitted.
The statutes, regulations and court decisions we quote are public documents and are not ours to restrict.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change materially, the date at the top changes. Continuing to use the site after that means the updated terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Nothing here limits any right you have under consumer protection law in your own country that cannot be waived by agreement.
